The 5th Attempted Entry Element: On the Covid Craptacular Catastrophe That Is Union Station 2020 Plus Other Hateful Illiberal Left Lunacies

Dazzling Sun and the Washington Monument as seen from The Ellipse, Washington, D.C., 12:05 p.m. October 8, 2020

*******

Well, this is now the fifth draft entry -- with the remaining four still in draft to include one stretching back a full month that was intended to be entry #3,000.

Robert A. Taft Memorial and Carillon, Washington, D.C., 5:07 p.m. October 10, 2020

*******

The problem is every time I start an entry, it immediately spirals out of control precisely because of the political commentary content, plus the inherently elaborate way in which I must compose entries in Blogger's revised HTML composition mode.

There is something Edward Hopperesque about this this image the elevated Forrestal building. There was a warm breeze blowing, too, and it transported me back to the old Tradewinds Beach Club in Sea Bright, N.J., in the 1970s and 1980s. I was thinking of when I would stand at the edge of the cabinet labryinth under the main pool deck and by the parking lot -- and the channeled breeze would blow.

*******

Yes, in any and every entry I try to write, I am almost immediately overwhelmed by the vortex of insanity involving the hot, flaming, destructive, garbage of the 2020 presidential election politics (the entire thing is one giant media PSYOP); WOKE Thought Control-minded Cultural Marxism, and the ever-more-nonsensical Covid situation.

The latter features a roster of state and local Democrat pols who, with the help of a terrorizing media, have brazenly exploited a minor "public health emergency" to establish a wildly unconstitutional and flamboyantly extraconstitutional, open-ended medical police state.

Above: Another dazzling Sun and Washington Monument picture from the Ellipse. See -- the midday Sun is nearly white, not yellow, much less orange. In fact, it IS white as seen from space. It only looks a bit yellowish-white at midday because the blue and violent are scattered out into the blue of the sky.

*******

By the time I even get around to completing the entry text, I need to post, like, 25 to 30 images to break up the text AND do all the formatting -- and it's already 1 a.m.

Above: This picture was taken on September 8, 2020 and includes what I think are a trio of white pines in a grassy area between 14th and 15th Streets NW along the National Mall. One of the tree branches had come down in a storm a week or so earlier.

*******

Instead, I invariably end up watching my late night shows on MeTV, Cozi TV, and Antenna TV in my small but comfortable apartment somewhere in Washington, D.C., and the entry just ends up in DRAFT form for days or weeks before I finish it or, occasionally, delete it outright.

Repeat the cycle the next night.

Sort of a cool vantage point shadow effect of the Washington Monument, 12:08 p.m., October 8, 2020.

*******

For this entry, it was my honest intention to keep in brief -- and also not post that many images. Rather, I intended to post a second, more complete entry. But, in the end, this entry ended up being one of my lengthy ones with 30+ images to include a bunch of random outdoor pics I took over the past month here in D.C.

I got home around 6:30 p.m. after having left the apartment around 11:15 a.m. to meeting my mom for lunch. Specifically, I took a MARC train from Union Station (more on that place below) to BWI Airport Rail Station where we met. We went to lunch again at G&M in Linthicum Heights, which. I quite like that place.

G&M is where I went with Gary on Sept 18 at the start of the trip to Oceanside, Calif., and we met my mom there. Later, we flew from BWI to San Diego. I still have a second batch of vacation pics to post in a subsequent entry.)

Above: Flags at half-staff around the base of the Washington Monument on September 11, 2020 in commemoration of what happened that day 19 years earlier.

*******

The MARC train itself had very few people on it both going up there and returning. When I got back, I opted to walk home -- detouring on a somewhat circuitous route down to the Mall and all the way to 21st Street and thence north to my apartment on Massachusetts Ave at 22nd and Q Streets NW.

Strictly speaking, I could have just walked the 22 blocks "up" Massachusetts Ave NW, since that thoroughfare runs past Union Station at North Capitol Street. Indeed, Union Station's address is technically 50 Massachusetts Ave NE -- since it is right by the intersection of Massachusetts and North Capitol Street at what is called Columbus Circle. Instead, I followed a route that included my regular weekday walk between L'Enfant Plaza and home.

Anyway, after about a 3-1/2 to 4 mile walk, I made it home. Right now, I'm home now watching TV, specifically, the start of the MeTV Super Sci-Fi lineup, although it gets kicked off at 6 p.m. with two hours of The Three Stooges.

Yes, for some explicable reason, I've started to like the Three Stooges. I can't explain it. Right now, the Svengoolie-hosted monster movie is the 1955 film Tarantula!

OK, now is a good time to write a few thoughts on Union Station ...

Above: An image of Union Station circa 2015 in what was probably its high watermark during the past 50 years. Thereafter, a large renovation in 2016 that attempted to make the Main Hall (or Great Hall) "cleaner" with less "stuff" in it -- in order to recapture how it looked in the early 20th Century -- made it worse. And the now-half-year-long, open-ended Covid lockdown shit has destroyed it.

Now in late 2020, Washington, D.C.'s Union Station is a fucking horrible nightmare. And you can thank the endless, pointless, wholly counterproductive lockdowns ostensibly designed to "flatten the curve" of Covid -- all brought to you by Marxist and otherwise totalitarian-minded Democrat pols. Yes, it's a grotesque ghost of what it was only four years ago.

*******

To be clear, given its location in D.C., Union Station always had a deeply edgy side and was rife with homeless people, panhandlers, petty criminals, and borderline dangerous local teenagers targeting its throngs of daily commuters, visiting tourists, and other travelers. But now, it's pretty damn crummy.

Another image of Union Station circa 2015 -- judging by the existence of the Center Café.

It isn't an exaggeration to say that literally, three-quarters of the businesses are closed -- many clearly for good. What's more, the place is a filthy homeless encampment, so it is filled with urine-smelling schizophrenic street people. Their presence makes the stupid Covid-related mask mandate a joke -- although WOKE Millennial she-males and gender-unspecified types still wear and can't get enough of their face diapers-as-virtue-signaling burqas. And they're actually weirdly happy when homeless black men DON'T have on masks.

Above is an image of Union Station's Main Hall in May 2020 during the Covid-19 horseshit. And, yes, even in October 2020, we're still deep into the Covid-19 horseshit with the "pandemic" having fully morphed now into the aptly-named Covid-1984 with a would-be totalitarian medical police state, except Democrat cities are invariably run so badly that little actually happens.

Union Station's south-facing exterior as seen in 1923.

*******

Still, though, the medical police state is on the lookout for all "public health emergencies" to include Covid, the "climate crisis," and, of course, "systemic racism" -- which is to say, ANYTHING traditionally American that offends its WOKE and endlessly triggered Marxist identiy politics sensibilities.

Union Station's Main Hall, circa 1921

The wildly counterproductive, open-ended lockdowns and "two weeks to flatten the curve" now-seven-month-old closures have rendered Union Station a economic, financial, and social catastrophe that will take -- in the best of circumstances -- five years to recover, and more likely a decade or more.

As with everything done by medically, ecologically, and socially justice minded-WOKE liberals and their shitty local Democrat politicians, there was absolutely zero forethought to the unintended consequences that invariably produce the exact OPPOSITE of their stated goals.

The current catastrophic state of Union Station and terrorized and traumatized condition of so many of her voters, of course, APPEALS to Madam Mayor Muriel McCheese Bowser. In fact, any place that might do well would get a visit from her morally and ethically diseased health department since the actual goal is a perma-lockdown and totalitarian leftwing state.

Given how dumb she is, Mayor Big Breasted McCheese herself may or may not realize what's happening, but as a practical matter, she is helping bring out the very OPPOSITE of what she claims to want (helping poor and/or BIPOC residents to make a "socially just" society).

As Alex Berenson notes in this tweet -- with link to a password-protected San Francisco Chronicle article -- multiple big blue cities and, in the case of California, large portions of the state itself, are basically committing suicide in this fashion.

As part of the thread, he accurately wrote: From New York to Chicago to Seattle, the big blue urban cores - which are crucial economic engines and home to tens of millions of people - are setting themselves on fire.

Berenson also noted that Google and its YouTube subsidiary have become active Illiberal Leftwing content police against ANY idea that contradicts the dangerous Big Media Received Wisdom on Covid and the self-destructive and wholly counter-productive nature of lockdowns. This includes anything to do with the Great Barrington Declaration.

The declaration is a proposal signed at the American Institute for Economic Research in Great Barrington, Massachusetts on October 4, 2020 discussing the "grave concerns" of the signatories -- infectious disease epidemiologists and public health scientists -- to the "damaging" physical and mental health consequences of the societal response to the COVID-19 epidemic and need for a "Focused Protection" approach.

You can still find the link via Wikipedia or on Bing..

Needless to say, the self-aggrandizing, megalomaniacal, nearly 80-yaer old Good and Great Dr. Anthony Fauci doesn't agree. He wants lockdowns forever.

Eventually, even my obscure, nearly-no-reader blog may fall afoul of Google in some fashion -- Blogger is run by Google, after all -- and it will be "vaporized" in Covid-1984 fashion.

The number of new Covid cases is supposedly "SURGING TO RECORD HIGHS!!!" at 50,000 to 60,000+ per day -- thanks to the 40-cycle PCR test that is DESIGNED to find as many positive cases as possible. Testing itself is now, seven months into this cataclysmic fraud of a media pandemic, a $50 billion a year testing racket. By design, the 40-cycle PCR test finds a factor of ten more positive cases than is real.

As for the 1,000 DEATHS A DAY!!, that is mostly a macabre "death accounting" trick whereby death certificates are matched to COVID FATALITIES!! no matter the cause of death, provided there was a positive case result.

All this is intentionally obfuscated by the malevolent whore media, which are desperate to find examples to satisfy the completely bullshit narrative YOUNG PEOPLE DYING OF COVID!!Yes, it's bullshit because Covid fatalities are practically nonexistent among the young and healthy.

Speaking of Alex Berenson, this former New York Times reporter delved just a bit into a New York Times story that ran three weeks ago about a 29-year old, otherwise healthy man named Tyler Amburgey of Lavon, Texas who was reported to have died from Covid-19.

A simple request to the Collin County Medical Examiner revealed that Mr. Amberguy -- while Covid-19 positive, or rather, SARS-CoV-2 positive -- actually died of an Oxycodone and Alprazolam overdose. It's not even clear if he was ill with Covid.

Calling the death a Covid one is misleading to the point of an outright lie since the reporter specifically wrote the story to make a point about young people dying of Covid.

When Berenson called out the reporter, a Richard Sandomir, showed himself to be a thin-skinned pussy and responded by blocking Berenson on Twitter.

This is in keeping with the New York Times WOKE mindset in which facts are subservient to Marxist-minded "meta-narratives" of oppressor and oppressed.

Now, at this point, I really need to stop because I could quickly get into a discussion about the grotesque behavior of both CNN and PMSNBC and other Big Media outsets when it comes to Donald Trump, whose very quick and total recovery from Covid have sent them, multiple Hollywood celebs, and the Left in general into apoplectic fits of howling rage.

Monthly deaths per million for the period January 1900 - August 2020 with specific respiratory pandemics shown to include the Spanish Flu of 1918 - 1920, the 1968 Hong Kong Flu, a 2018 flu, and the 2020 Covid-19 (a.k.a., the China-Virus or the Wuhan Pangolin Flu).

Yes, that little splinter of a line on the bottom of this graph -- barely higher than the one representing the 2018 flu season -- this is the reason we have blown up our society.

I will again note that media pundits and journo-pundits have been in a state of atavistic lunacy because Trump "deservedly caught" Covid but then immediately recovered and is telling people not to panic over it. For this, Trump is being called a "mass-murdering bioterrorist" by random CNN and PMSNBC pundits and the deeply certifiably insane Keith Olbermann, who just quit collapsing ESPN and is back to politically pontificating.

In Olbermann's case, he actually said he wants concentration camps for the "maggots" who voted for Trump -- i.e., he wants a Nazi "response" to "cleanse" society. Chris "Metrosexual Pussy" Hayes has suggested a similar approach to anyone not agreeing with the Covid crap.

Hahaha

Much of this is being driven, as stated, by Trump's Covid diagnosis and rapid recovery after three days at Walter Reed -- and refusal to play by the Lockdown Left's playbook, which was for him to die. Now, to the Hateful, Crazy Left, Trump is an anthropomorphized "biological weapon of mass destruction." This is how they think. His biggest crime was when he told people not to be afraid of Covid and let it "dominate" their lives. This sent the Left into barking madness.

It was ostensibly the reason for the ever-more-wacky Nancy Pelosi's 25th Amendment stunt this past week -- although, as President Trump himself noted, she's actually laying the ground work for what will happen assuming Biden wins the Presidency next month.

The hardly-concealed plan is to declare Biden, who is in steady cognitive decline and who they will dispense with as soon they drag him over the finish line, mentally incompetent. The intention is to make Kalama "The Hateful Race-Baiting Harpy" Harris the President. It's a desire exuded by Harris herself along with the AOC Squad-minded Leftist Jacobins around her.

They want her to be first Black Female President -- and one who will attempt to create that demented and unworkable Marxist utopia they are wildly craving by whatever means necessary to include abolishing the Senate filibuster, packing the Supreme Court with multiple new seas, and even creating multiple new U.S. States to pack the House and Senate. Through all of these efforts, they dream of never losing an election again.

As a final point on Union Station, I used to really like Thunder Grill -- although one of the bartenders there was inexplicably a real dick to us once when I went there with my mom.

And I really used to like the Center Cafe, but it was removed in the 2016 renovation, which was intended to return the Main Hall to its original form. Instead, it screwed up the place since the Main Hall was rendered useless while all the restaurants (except Thunder Grill) were moved into the scuzzy, mobbed food court.

There are 36 in the Main Hall and, I believe, 10 around the exterior, hence 46. Of note, the model for these Louis Saint-Gaudens sculptures -- created circa 1910 -- was a young, athletic college student named, Helmus W. Andrews, who many years later (in 1957) said to the AP: "They look pretty crummy to me."

Well, its 2020 and Union Station looks pretty crummy to me.

OK, that's all for this entry. I will try to post another entry tomorrow night. For tomorrow, I may Metro up to Friendship Heights and walk back home via Spring Valley and Georgetown. My next planned entry will be Monday night.
