Another Bout of Heavy Rainfall in a Remarkably (Record) Wet Year -OR- Frogtown, U.S.A.

Here we go again …

Sterling (LWX) NWS county warning area (CWA) weather advisories updated 9:28 a.m. EST Dec 19, 2018

A general flood watch is in effect for the region.

NWS point-grid forecast with icons for Washington, D.C., 19 - 21 Dec 2018

This forecast implies up to 2.5 inches of rain by Friday evening.

If this forecast verifies, not only with KBWI (Baltimore) have achieved a remarkable 70-inch annual precipitation total, but KIAD (Dulles) will have surpassed its previous all-time wettest year of 65.67 inches set in 2003 -- itself an outlier given that the previous second-highest total was 59.05 inches recorded in 1972.

Bringing up the metaphorical -- if not actual -- rear, our own favorite ASOS spot, KDCA (Washington, D.C.), will be in excess of 65 inches and well into record annual precipitation territory.

So, that's all three regional airport climate stations in a record wet calendar year -- although it's not a record wet arbitrary 365-day period in the full data set back to 1871 at least for KDCA.

(Ditto KDMH, except it doesn't have a full 30-year record dataset just yet. Oh, and fyi, the annual normal for all four locations is about 40 inches.)

Presently, it's a sunny, chilly, tranquil December morning.

This apartment is a lot quieter -- except for the air conditioner blower and/or fans I keep running at times -- and much more pleasant that my previous apartment unit in this building. Glad I moved.

As an update, I actually need to be in the office this morning so take care of some work-related matters. We're also supposed to have an office potluck lunch with, I believe, some wine and perhaps beer. Tonight, it is a non-gym night but rather than stopping anywhere, I intend just to come home into this wee apartment and watch my MeTV lineup of old shows. I also intend to post another entry.

As for my wisdom tooth issue, there is another oral surgeon here in D.C. that takes my dental insurance, so I am going to try to arrange to go there rather than what I was able to arrange yesterday -- a Jan 2nd visit at a facility way up in Germantown, Md.

OK, signing off for now.
