Jukebox Saturday Night for June 9th, 2018: The Lady Day, Ms. Matsui, & Kelly Clarkson Edition

OK, let's start with something just wonderful …

"Mean to Me" by Billie Holiday performing with Teddy Wilson and Lester Young and his Orchestra (1937)

"'Mean to Me' is a popular song with music by Fred E. Ahlert and lyrics by Roy Turk, published in 1929. Hit versions that year were by Ruth Etting and by Helen Morgan. The song is a popular standard, recorded by many artists… Billie Holiday recorded her version in 1937 with Lester Young and Teddy Wilson …"

I got the idea for featuring this song by the great Lady Day from Bryan Wright's most recent Shellac Stack podcast.

Next up, a nice piece by a really talented composer and keyboardist with a flare for smooth jazz and jazz fusion …

"Black River" by Keiko Matsui from her album Moyo (2007)

I last featured Ms. Matsui in this Jukebox Saturday Night edition back in Oct. 2013. Ms. Matsui's website is here.

And we'll end with something suitably Saturday night upbeat and energetic …

"Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)" by Kelly Clarkson from her album of same name (that is, Stronger) (2011)

OK, that's all for now. Please see my previous entry for a general update and multi-topical posting.
