Friday Night Moonlight Vodka Seltzer Serenade and Rainy Thursday on the Avenue Pictures*

*With apologies to Duran Duran

A startling "green flash" seen with the rising Full Moon over the Teide Observatory on the Island of Tenerife on June 2, 2015.

This was taken by Daniel López from a startling distance of 143-km away from the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory on the Canary Island of La Palma. The green flash is visible just above the Sea of Crises (the oval-shaped dark circle on the top limb of the Moon). (I have something to say about the Sea of Crises -- I estimate that it is about the size of the State of Iowa.)

The green flash is seen with the rising or setting Sun, and until I saw this picture on today's APOD, I didn't realize the rising or setting Moon could have the same effect. (I saw the setting Sun's green flash on the Pacific Ocean water horizon in Puerto Vallerta in 1989.)

It's been a long time since I posted an Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) picture. I have to change that.

Friday evening.

Tonight is a bit chaotic and I have Gary over, and he is having a big issue with his mom, so I can't really post any entry tonight. Tomorrow is a gym and laundry day. I'll try to post a jukebox Saturday night entry.

The Washington Monument and National Mall grounds, Washington, D.C., 7:10PM June 4, 2015 on a rainy event.

The National Mall grounds are under massive "reconstruction" (in sections) to undo the decades and decades of soil compaction. This was seen through a construction fence. I was walking home work as I discussed in my previous entry.

Gary is a good son. To be clear, his mom is a lovely lady, but it is a rather difficult situation. My situation is with my dad -- except in that case, the crazy stays down there and I'm supposed to go into it, not have the crazy come into my apartment and my life.

Rainy evening of 1200 block of Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, D.C., 7:19PM June 4, 2015.

As for my mom, it's an interesting situation -- as though all the bad things of the first 42 years of my life simply don't exist and never did. It's odd and, yes, good.

Rainy evening walking through Franklin Square, Washington, D.C., 7:32PM June 4, 2015.

I was walking home from work and stopped at the Post Pub before continuing on home.

OK, that's all for now. This entry ended up being longer than I anticipated (and written while talking to Gary). We're drinking a bottle of vodka (me with Seltzer water mixer) that Dave J. gave me last night as an unwanted present from someone to him. That too is a long story.
