"Mr. Sandman" by The Chordettes (1954)
"Mr. Sandman (Yes...?) / Bring us a dream. / Give him a pair of eyes with a come-hither gleam. / Give him a lonely heart like Pagliacci, / And lots of wavy hair like Liberace. / Mr. Sandman, someone to hold (Someone to hold) / Would be so peachy before we're too old. / So please turn on your magic beam! / Mr. Sandman, bring us, / Please, please, please, / Mr. Sandman, bring us a dream!"
"Empire State of Mind" by Jay-Z ft. Alicia Keys from The Blueprint 3 release (2009)
I'm fully expecting this video to be co-opted by the New York City tourism office (or whatever it's called) as soon as it can.
I didn't do much today except compose that lengthy entry that is my tribute to Bartcop. Later, somewhat unexpectedly, Gary contacted me and we went on this sunny and warm early spring day (temps reached 73F or so here in D.C.) to Arlington. We went to weird Freddie's in Crystal City where Gary signed up for his annual gay softball league. We were going to stay there for some food but it was too crowded and the service was too slow. The place's pastel sherbet colors and kitschy designs are over the top. Instead, we had some food and drinks at the nearby Chili's along Jefferson Davis Highway. We then rode back into the city as night fell and it got colder under clear skies.
And for something a little more Saturday night upbeat ...
"Xanadu" by Electric Light Orchestra with lyrics by Olivia Newton-John from the soundtrack album of same name with the video (I think) an excerpt from the musical movie of same name (1980).
The video gets all psychedelic, and, yes, that is indeed Gene Kelly who was in the film.
"Now that I'm here / Now that you're
OK, that's all for now. On Star Trek: The Original Series right now is the episode "Bread and Circuses." Wendy and I are going to dinner (yes, a second dinner in a few hours) and then to No. 9, where we may meet up again with Gary. I'll go to the gym tomorrow. I may update the blog tomorrow, or alternatively, on Monday night.
