Friday Night Musical Interlude Feb. 8th, 2013 "Snow Joke" Edition

"But Beautiful" by Jackie Gleason* (instrumental version, year uncertain)

The song appears originally in the 1947 movie Road to Rio and was written by Jimmy Van Heusen with lyrics by Johnny Burke

*Yes, it's that Jackie Gleason ...a.k.a., "The Great One" ... of The Honeymooners / Ralph Kramden fame. He was a comedian, actor, and a musician. How sweet it is. Indeed.

*******

And for something a bit more energetic on a Friday night ...

"Take On Me" by A-Ha (1984/1985)

The "rotoscoping" pencil-sketch animation of this video is fascinating (and won a number of MTV video awards back in 1986). And running through that fascist police state nightmare maze chased by some sort of giant wrench-wielding secret police trying to get back to "our world" -- quite amazing for a little 1980s music video from a Norwegian New Wave Synthpop band.

******

And since we're in an '80s mode here, how about this one ...

"Karma Chameleon" by Culture Club (1983)

This delightful video is "set" in Mississippi in 1870 on a river boat with a whole farrago of characters and Boy George singing and then ending with the gang plank walking into the Mississippi River. Well, that video just kinda speaks for itself.
