"Take On Me" by A-Ha (1984/1985)
The "rotoscoping" pencil-sketch animation of this video is fascinating (and won a number of MTV video awards back in 1986). And running through that fascist police state nightmare maze chased by some sort of giant wrench-wielding secret police trying to get back to "our world" -- quite amazing for a little 1980s music video from a Norwegian New Wave Synthpop band.

"Karma Chameleon" by Culture Club (1983)
This delightful video is "set" in Mississippi in 1870 on a river boat with a whole farrago of characters and Boy George singing and then ending with the gang plank walking into the Mississippi River. Well, that video just kinda speaks for itself.
