Coastal aerial view of the Cabot Trail on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia.
I went to Nova Scotia -- including Cape Breton Island -- with my dad in June or early July 1983. I was 13 years old. We drove hundreds of miles across eastern Canada on that trip and visited provinces including Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia (returning by ferry to Maine). Our PEI visit coincided with a visit by then-recently married Prince Charles and Princess Diana, and we saw their jet take off.
Exhausted tonight, but it was after a good gym workout after my regular work day. Lotsa cardio (40 minutes on the treadmill jogging and 20 minutes on the elliptical trainer) and swimming (well, some frolicking in the deep end). Unfortunately, I think I'm more flabby now than ever. There still haven't been any showers / t-storms despite always being in the forecast.
Crossing the National Mall with the Washington Monument in the near distance on an ominously cloudy summer evening, 6:17PM, July 31,2012, on one of my periodic walks from work at L'Enfant Plaza. No needed rain fell, though.
I still haven't finished the entry on the disastrous, cut-short Florida trip to see my dad. Please note the corrections in the initial entry I wrote, including using the word "border" instead of "board" and clarifying Mr. S's likely tip amount to match my unplanned expenditures there ($434). For some reason, I initially wrote $420 for the former.
I'm home now as the midnight hour approaches watching on Antenna TV an old rerun of Too Close for Comfort. I really like that show for some reason, as I wrote about here. It's the episode "Girls of the Media" where Sara poses nude for a girly magazine called Fleshpot. And it was always strange to see the late Ted Knight -- of Mary Tyler Moore Ted Baxter fame -- play the "straight" guy.
Watching the supergay Jim J. Bullock's supergay Monroe character pretend to be a straight guy oogling over women is comical. But that was the world of 1983 -- yes, 1983 again -- which at age 13 living in Maryland and New Jersey, I do actually do recall. Anyway, The King of Queens and The Golden Girls are on in a bit on TVLand and Hallmark, respectively.
Rough ocean surf somewhere on the coast of Australia.
OK, I think that's all for now. My plan is to go to the gym tomorrow evening after work. I hope tomorrow's work day is OK. I am concerned about one issue related to a compliance case and whether my e-mail / phone call to a grantee and sub-grantee might cause an issue.
Oh, yes, on Friday is my office's annual baseball game night. The Nationals are playing the Marlins. I've invited Gary along, and later we'll go out.
My next planned update -- and speaking of things Florida, specifically, my disastrous and foreshortened trip to see my father -- will be over the weekend.
