"Let us realize the arc of the moral universe is long but it bends toward justice."
-- Martin Luther King, Jr., Aug. 1967, in a speech to the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC)
On that note, let us realize that on October 3, 2008, exactly 13 years to the day after a truly horrible travesty of justice was committed in the profoundly morally wrong name of some sort of some bogus "equalizing" racial justice for the historical mortal sin of American slavery ...
... whose evil is pictured here in a rare image of an actual American slave from circa 1863 who had been savagely tortured and, as a result, disfigured by his "overseer" ...
... whereby Orenthal James Simpson, an erstwhile professional athlete and mega - celebrity, was wrongly acquitted of the brutal butchering knife-slashing murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman by a mentally retarded and morally brain dead jury of worthless idiots from the ghetto-blasted "Watts" section of South Central Los Angeles ...
... this same "O.J." Simpson was found guilty by a jury in Las Vegas on all 12 counts stemming from an armed robbery in Sept. 2007 at the Palace Station Hotel & Casino spearheaded by "The Juice" and a farrago of vile and thuggish underworld cohorts in crime with whom he consorts these days in an attempt to steal an assortment of his football-era related sports memorabilia.
May Mr. Simpson be sentenced to the maximum number of years and may he spend the remainder of his worthless years in a jail cell where he so richly deservedly belongs in his psychotic-narcissistic stupor.
Now I wonder if any of those African Americans who were dancing in the streets on Oct. 3, 1995 when O.J. was acquitted because this meant to them --in a puerile and perverted moral calculus -- some sort of "equalization" of historical racial injustice will see things differently now?
OR will this be just one more 21st Century grievance to nurse, and all the more ironically, just one month before the United States is likely going to elect its first-ever (part) African American President, a man of great competence, compassion, understanding, eloquence, and skill, Barack Obama?
"Thus saith GOD the LORD, HE that created the Heavens, and stretched them out; HE that spread forth the Earth, and that which cometh out of it; HE that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein: I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles; To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house." -- Isaiah 42: 5-7
On a lighter note ... two quick items ...
First, I need a haircut BIG TIME but I'm going to wait, I think, until next weekend when my friend Joe's wife -- who is a hair stylist -- is around to cut my hair.
A picture of Gary and me at Larry's Lounge earlier tonight here in D.C.
Second, at 230PM tomorrow - well, actually, later today as it is nearly 5AM Saturday -- is the Annual Blessing of the Animals at the Washington National Cathedral where family pets are given a special blessing. I am going to try to go just as an observer, although at this point, I'm so tired, I may just sleep until 5PM and miss the whole thing.
