Dog Is My Co-Pilot

Awwwww, puppy, so cute ... this little guy was waiting for his (her?) daddy outside the Starbucks at 16th and U St., NW, here in Washington, D.C., as I saw on my way to the Dupont Metro on Wednesday morning (Oct. 22, 2008) heading to work ...

Just a quick update ...

First, I have updated my Arcturus blog with some political commentary I found online that I found very enjoyable. I am very hopeful that Barack Obama is going to win in just 11 days. I didn't mention the following in that entry but I'll not it here: The New York Times just came out with a powerful editorial (for what that's worth) in favor of Obama. It is worth a read. All the other signs and polls are also looking good for him (and America), too.

Secondly, we are hopefully going to have a rainy Saturday and Saturday night. We've been in a dry spell for a month now with virtually no rain this month (0.04" at DCA on the 1st and no measurable precipitation since then).

I'm NOT going to recite all the stats but suffice it to say that DCA is at 40.00" EXACTLY, which is 7.53" above normal, and nearly double last year's drought plagued total of 22.01" by this date. This dry spell, though, is really cutting into our yearly surplus. Boo. The yearly normal at DCA is 39.35", so we are actually above normal for the entire calendar year.

Here is the 0438 UTC (1238AM EDT) 24 Oct 2008 radar mosaic for the Southeastern U.S. (with the D.C. area NOT included). All of this precip. is more or less moving toward the mid-Atlantic region for tomorrow night into Saturday. Yay.

Work ... complicated.

School ... okay.

I saw one of THE FUNNIEST episodes of Third Rock from the Sun tonight on TV Land. I found the episode on YouTube in three parts. The volume is low (and the one with the louder volume could not be embedded). However, I think it is hysterical. The episode is "Sensitive Dick" and it involves Dick, who is a college physics professor (played by actor John Lithgow) having to go to university "sensitivity training" class for insulting his clueless physics class.

The two funniest parts are at 7:00 and 8:45. The first is when he is in the sensitivity training class with the gay teacher in a unitard (who says at one point, "Dick, labels dis-able!" with appropriate hand gestures).

The second is when he returns to his own class now clad in his own unitard and sockless Birkenstocks, with desks and chairs replaced by bean bags, and teaches quantum chromodynamics as if it were poetry, ballet or just a flaky English honors seminar. This includes drawing hearts around chalkboard equations and giving smiley faces instead of grades.

The whole episode is hysterical:

The second part (9:53) is here and it includes Dick "sensitivity" trial -- very funny ("where would you be without us to attach the electrodes of knowledge to the nipples of ignorance?!"):

And the third part (1:28) is here:

French Stewart, Jan Hooks, and Jane Curtin were all very, very funny, too. In fact, pretty much all the regular and recurring characters on the show were funny.

My next planned blog update is this weekend.

Hey. I'm typing from the Megabus to New York. They have wireless on the bus. Pretty cool. Gloria and I had some wine before we left. We are in Baltimore now.

I loved the third rock clips. I also linked your arcturus blog because of the political post. I kinda tied in to mine.
